As part of the Samaritans’ annual 24:7 campaign, Amersham-based Chiltern Samaritans recently welcomed motorcyclist and Samaritans volunteer David Exley who is travelling around the UK and Ireland to raise awareness of the charity. The 6000-mile journey will finish in Cardiff, where David will be greeted by his sponsors Admiral Insurance. During the 49-day trip, David will have visited each of the 201 Samaritans branches.
Chiltern Samaritans was the 56th branch to receive a visit from the 64 year old motorcyclist, who is also completing the ride in memory of his brother Tim and his son James, both of whom sadly died by suicide. Before setting off on his travels David said, ‘I really hope that my challenge will mean that more people will be aware of the support Samaritans offers, that way, some good can come out of what has been a very difficult time for me and my family.’
Chiltern Samaritans’ Director Geoffrey Stone said, ‘We were delighted to welcome David to our branch. His challenge has really helped highlight this year’s 24:7 campaign both locally and across the UK and Ireland. Samaritans is the only helpline available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering support to anyone struggling to cope.’
