Peter Borrows of the Amersham Martyrs Guided Walks group asks if you’re tired of the Olympics already? He (not Chiltern Voice) poses the question, ‘Wanting a break after the Opening Ceremony?‘ He invites you to take your family and friends on the Amersham Martyrs Guided Walk on Saturday 28 July 2012, starting at 2.30pm from the Amersham Museum, 49 High Street. No booking necessary – just turn up to meet the guides in their early Tudor costume. They will take a little over two hours to lead you around Old Amersham and through the fields, telling about places of relevance to the story of the Lollard Martyrs – six men and one woman burnt to death for their beliefs 500 years ago. The account of these terrible events is set in the context of life 500 years ago – clothing, food, drink, health, medicines, language, housing, work – and ghosts. It costs £2 and children go free.
