Veteran of the Antiques Road Show John Bly, is to host a gala auction of promises for Chesham Museum in October. It will be held at Chartridge Golf Club on Wednesday 13 October 2010 and includes a champagne reception, a three-course meal with entertainment and a raffle. The star attraction is an auction of promises with John Bly as auctioneer. Tickets cost £35 per head.

The event is the biggest yet organised by the museum and masterminded by the museum’s new events organiser Jenny Moore. Jenny said, “We are delighted to be part of such an exciting event to raise funds and the profile of our museum. Preparations are in full swing, and we are being generously supported by many of businesses. “We already have some fantastic prizes, including a year’s ‘peak’ membership at Nexus Leisure Centre, a dinner, bed and breakfast package at the De Vere Latimer Place, and a prize that money cannot buy – a tour of the Decorative Arts section of the Victoria and Albert Museum with John Bly himself.”

One of the organisers, museum’s vice-chairman Chris Spruytenburg said, “John Bly has been extremely generous in devoting a lot of time to help put this event together. We are sure it will be a great success. Many people have seen John on TV and will support us as a result.” To help publicise the fundraiser, John Bly will be the main attraction at a special launch event at the museum at 2.30 and 7.30pm on Thursday 9 September at which he will autograph tickets after purchase.
