On Saturday 11 September there are two walks to enjoy.
The other railway route walk is led by Andrew Clark for WaW (Walkers are Welcome). Meet at Chesham Museum at 9.30am for onward travel to the start of the 9 mile walk in Tring. You will follow the historical route of the proposed Manchester to Paris railway which was never built. It is a guided Heritage walk entitled Watkin’s Walk: Chesham’s Place in Railway History, and will recreate part of Sir Edward Watkin’s proposed rail route from Manchester to Paris via Chesham. Watkin (1819-1901) was Chairman of the Metropolitan Railway. This walk is limited to 20 places, to book call 01494 792549 or email info@cheshammuseum.org.uk.
Find Out What HS2 Will Ruin Around Here. Say No to the proposed high speed rail line across the Chilterns, a seven - eight mile walk from Amersham to Great Missenden and see the proposed route in the AONB (Area of Natural Beauty). We hope this proves a fantasy. This walk is almost fully booked but if you register quickly and get lots of sponsorship you might be accommodated. Register with the Chiltern Society www.chilternsociety.org.uk, email Jim Rodda jrodda@ukf.net or call 01494 771250.
