Visualise the bowling

Chesham Pioneers (blind and partially sighted) Bowls Club hosted the Ken Kenny Memorial Tournament at Chesham Bowling Club in Lowndes Park on Wednesday 13 June. Bowlers from the other blind and partially sighted clubs were welcomed by Colin Ware, the President of Chesham Bowling Club, who wished them a good day's bowling on Buckinghamshire's finest bowling green! Colin's welcome was echoed by Roy Pound on behalf of the Pioneers expressing regrets that bowlers from Wolverton could not make it. He welcomed the bowlers and helpers from Aylesbury Rollers, Wycombe Chestnuts and Hillingdon Bobcats. The weather was fine and the bowling did justice to the green, each match being well contested.
Roy said, “Several visitors watched the bowling and we were joined in the afternoon by Chesham Town Mayor, Councillor Merrin Molesworth who watched the final, fiercely contested by Pioneers 1 and Bobcats 1.The final score of 6 - 1 to the Pioneers did not reflect the excellent bowling of both triples - the best match and final seen during the 13 years that the Tournament has been held.”
The Pioneers winning triple was Peter Stickland, Tony Yeardye and Sue Rogers.
Councillor Molesworth presented the Memorial Plate to the winners and bottles of wine to the finalists. She expressed her thanks for being invited to the tournament and her admiration of the excellent bowling. George Baker, the Pioneers captain, thanked the bowlers for coming and especially the helpers and markers, without whom the bowlers would be unable to follow their sport.
A good day was had by all and everyone is looking forward to 2008.
